We’re George and James Architects, an ambitious practice based in rural West Sussex. We design buildings that are thoughtful, timeless, and quietly joyful — from new homes and replacement dwellings, to large-scale remodelling and refurbishment projects, heritage work, and sensitive developments — and yes, even a sculptural dog kennel.

We care deeply about craft, context, and the people we design for. Our project, A Whippet in Sheep’s Clothing, created for Barkitecture 2025, is a playful extension of the values that shape all of our work.

A Whippet in Sheep's clothing

A Whippet in Sheep’s Clothing is our playful and poetic entry for Barkitecture 2025 — a sculptural dog kennel inspired by our whippet Archi, the sheep-dotted hills of the South Downs, and a love of beautifully crafted design. Built from curved plywood and lined with Harting sheepskins, it’s a piece that blends humour, heritage and mid-century elegance.

Our design skills and experience

We might appear young, but we’re surprisingly experienced. Between us we’ve worked on everything from York Theatre Royal and the cafe at Westminster Abbey to multi-housing developments and – of course – beautiful one-off houses in stunning locations.

Although we enjoy working locally, we do like to keep our horizons wide, and we have architectural projects in many corners of London and the South East. In fact, if it’s the right project and the right client, we’ll work almost anywhere.
